Shoe Shopping 101

I went to the shoe store
For gold pointy-toed
But something far different
Was to me sold

For a wedding next month
I wanted something formal
And instead ended up
With practical and normal

Gold pointy-toed
Seems not the current style
But in what I did buy
I’ll walk mile after mile

My old walking shoes
Have seen lots of wear
And so I was ready
To get a new pair

But shoes for this wedding?
My quest must continue
And here concludes the poem
Of my latest shopping issue

Stormy Weather

Driving in the driving rain
Was a huge and big fat pain

Especially annoying
I didn’t know where I was going

And of course is was dark
I would have rather stopped and park

But I was expected at this event
An invitation I was sent

And indeed I wanted to go
Oh well, at least it didn’t snow

I made it there in one piece
But the rain never did cease

I got back in my car stalwart
And prepared in the storm to depart

Oh great, we now had fog
But I got a topic for this week’s blog

Biker’s Delight

For vacation I do like
To find a place where I can bike

But biking conditions, I expect a lot
Since tons of strength I do not got

I like mountains, but not for biking
If you ask me, they’re meant for hiking

Forget about traffic, it makes me sad
Give me a bike path, and I am glad

And may this bike path go through woods
Cuz pretty scenery makes me feel good

As the saying goes, put the wind behind me
If it’s too blustery, I’m apt to get stymied

Speaking of weather, I don’t like chilly
That’s as bad as being too hilly

One of my favorite spots is off the Georgia coast
For biking vacations I like Jekyll Island the most!

Second Annual Ode to Thanksgiving

A holiday about tradition
Merits another poetic rendition
That’s at least my humble position
I say this with zero contrition
Thanksgiving is the best!

Cookbooks scattered here and there
Tables, counters, everywhere
As hubby wonders what to pair
With his pumpkin pudding éclair
New recipes to test!

Turkey’s easy, at that we’re pros
Gravy and stuffing, but then who knows?
Sweet or russet mashed potatoes?
And as for veggies, anything goes
Saute well, add lemon zest!

Friends and family will arrive
Thanks you guys for making the drive
And for new dishes you all contrive
So on Thanksgiving we will thrive
And afterwards will need a rest!

In case you were curious, here is last year’s poem

Economy Class Gal

Hubby says I’m crazy
But this is how I feel
An upgrade to first class
Is really no big deal
A fancy hotel?
Or extravagant meal?
Oh yes, I find them
Most pleasant and surreal

But first-class flying
Does little for me
Since they seldom offer
Much of anything for free
Got upgraded for our recent
Trip to the sea
For breakfast we got pretzels
And a cup of coffee

Pretzels and potato chips
You read that right
They hung up our jackets
But that isn’t quite
Such a huge amazing
Incredible delight
Holding my own jacket’s
Not a great plight

So yes, I’ll take the upgrade
When they’re giving them away
But for such great “luxury”
I doubt I’ll ever pay
I’d rather splurge on something
When I get to where I’ll stay
Now they’re calling my “zone” for home
So I’d better not delay

A Small Adventure

No special topic
For this week’s poem
So out on my bike
I decided to roam
To change my setting
Away from my home

Headed to
The Swamp Rabbit Trail
A path that once was
Part of a road-rail
Perhaps the train
Transported the mail

I head out of Greenville
Through dale, over hill
Great exercise for me
But I got hungry, so still
Stopping for lunch
Sure hit the bill

So that’s how I spent
My day so far
And the quality of this poem
Is about on par
With the one that I wrote
About driving my car

No Leaf Peeping for Me

How can it be
A friend asked me
That you left V.T.
When on every tree
The leaves turned orange?

I told that friend
Summer’s at end
Weather doesn’t bend
Winter it will send
To shacks with no heat

Leaf peeping now
But wait, and pow!
With snow on each bough
You’ll need a big plow
And I don’t like cold

S.C. today
Here I will stay
Come whatever may
Say yay or say nay
Until spring springs again

A Road Trip Quip

My first was a Torino-Ford
But now I drive a Honda Accord

Thinking about my car today
From the shack it takes me away

Accord is packed from roof to floor
Making it hard to open the door

Eleven hundred miles or so
Is a long way for a car to go

So we return to our winter home
But next spring to Vermont we will roam

Not much of a poem, but give me a break
I’m on a road trip for heaven’s sake!

The Travellin’ Shoes Blues

The greens of summer
Have turned to autumn hues
And colder nights
Offer some distinct clues
Yep, it’s high time
I don my travellin’ shoes

I love it lots
But the shack’s got no heat
So if I sit here
On my stubborn cold seat
I’ll need snow boots
For my size six feet

So I will leave
My beloved shack
But fear not, Vermont
For I will be back
Next year in May
If all goes on track

The Nantucket Blues

Nantucket’s the topic of many a poem
But alas, it’s a place I never have roamed

I hear it’s an isle in the grand state of Mass
Some write rhymes about it ever so crass

My little efforts are far more G-rated
I allude to some stuff but it’s all understated

And lest I’m accused of being a prude
I’d rather be boring than risk being crude
